1896. október 27-ei alapítása óta a Budapesti Fegyház és Börtön speciális funkciója a bv. intézetek közötti fogvatartotti szállítások, mozgatások biztosítása, ebből ered köznyelvi elnevezése is. A „Gyűjtő” napjainkban is az országos körszállítások helyszínéül szolgál, amelyek alkalmával hétfőnként az ország összes bv. intézetéből közel 1500 fogvatartottat szállítanak ide, hogy aztán továbbszállítsák őket a célintézetekbe.

The Prison Service includes inmates into vocational trainings countrywide, which enhances the chances of reintegration after release. The main activities of the company is the manufacture of paper forms and other printing work as well as textile and ironworks.
